Richard Wooton Dies SYDNEY, Australia, June 26. Reuters. Richard Wooton, who trained horses in England, South Africa and Australia and well-known for his development of jockeys, died here today at the age of 80. Wooton was the leading trainer in England in 1913. His protege jockeys were always in demand for big handicaps and his schooling methods have been carried on by his son, Stanley. His other son, Frank, was a leading jockey and won his first race when only 12 years old. While in England, Wooton trained winners of 372 races worth 50,-000. His chief successes were in selling races. The closest he came to winning a classic was when Shogun finished fifth i the 1913 Derby won by Aboyer.
