CARPET SWEEP, in hand while racing within striking distance of the leaders to the stretch, was sent to the middle of the track at the final turn and, responding to mild urging, wore down MARKSMAN and drew away. MARKSMAN assumed command rpproaching the stretch, held a short lead when settled for the drive, but was unable to withstand the winner although easily best of the others. AGRARIAN SON assumed the early lead, made the pace for five-eighths of a mile then weakened. ADMIRAL BILU began sluggishly. BENADDI was through early. FLOWING OIL had brief speed. DEBBY J., in hand to the stretch, responded to strong handling during the drive and wore down TOBO in the last sixteenth. TOBO, never far back and well handled,, reached the lead approaching the stretch, continued resolutely, but could not withstand the winner while easily besting the others. DEAR BOOTS tired after racing prominently to the stretch. WHATANURSE was outrun and had no excuse. CHALLEPORT, forced to take up when crowded on the first turn, moved up boldly when clear, but tired badly after going a half mile. VERAGEL began slowly. AIMING MAID quit after showing early speed.
