King Pine Makes Good As Even Money Choice Bielen Eases Mount Near Wire, With Safe Bet Five Lengths Off RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, May 21. — Cleveland sportsman Stephen Utz local favorite, King Pine, returned to his winning ways this afternoon and gave immense gratification to the public by winning the Cleveland Press Purse in a manner befitting an even money choice. Jockey Stanley Bielen had the five-year-old bay son of Prince Pine and Demurrer well within himself throughout the six-furlong journey, and was easing him up at the finish, some five lengths before Safe Bet, who sported the colors of A. J. Lombardi. Samuel J. Browns Maintaining was another length and a half behind but well before the remainder of the 11-horse field. A crowd estimated at 10,000 was in. attendance for todays sport. They were extremely generous in their support of Utz Ohio-homebred, although he was unable to place in the money in his two previous starts at this meeting. Last year he was one of the top handicap performers in this sector and, off todays effort, he will no doubt be entered next to challenge the best opposition that may be arranged against him. His time of 1:12% and the easy manner in which he scored, was very impressive. The racing strip was termed slow with the beginning of the afternoon but dried out swiftly under the strong south breezes and was tabbed fast for the feature event. B. A. Reynolds extreme outsider, Bar Rockaway, surprised by quickly asserting himself at the start and held better than a two-length lead going into the far turn. Safe Bet was racing in closest pursuit with King Pine biding his time in third position. Coming into the stretch, Bar Rockaway faltered suddenly, and Bielen alertly sent King Pine through on the inside to take command and drew away without need of pressure.
