Faneuil Miss Wins Bay State To Keep Record Unblemished Favored Honeywell Filly in * Hand asSheWhips Unbridled By Length for Third in Row SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 21. — Faneuil Miss, a bargain filly, owned by Honeywell Farm, lived up to expectations today and scored a handy victory in the first renewal of the Bay State Kindergarten Stakes at Suffolk Downs. A length back of the Teddys Comet .filly, Mrs. F. A. Genters Unbridled proved easily the best of the others that comprised the field of the dozen who went postward in the first juvenile stake of the New England season. Irving Gushens Georges Girl was three and a half lengths back in third place and a like distance before R. B. Carrolls Mucho Mas. An enthusiastic crowd numbering 25,118 was on hand for the sport which was held under ideal weather conditions. The heavy rains of the past 24 hours left the track heavy but it was drying out steadily under the bright sun. Fisk Substitutes for Fernandez Faneuil Miss, who may be considered one of the better juvenile fillies on the eastern seaboard, kept her record unblemished with todays triumph and added ,060, the lions share of the ,000 added purse, to her total earnings, which now are ,035. Installed an even money hazard by the majority in attendance, Faneuil Miss was timed in 1:01 for the five furlongs. Jockey Billy Fisk was substituted for Fernando Fernandez, regular pilot of the Honeywell star, who is recovering from a recent spill and Fisk proved an able replacement. In her two previous starts, Faneuil Miss was sluggish in leaving the barrier and did all her running in the final stages, but in the Kindergarten, Fisk had her off and running as starter Bob Frend sent the field winging. Fisk was content to steady her going to the far turn and abreast of Unbridled. The Genter colt sped from his outside post position to join her soon after the break and Joe Molbert kept him out in the better going, gambling on losing some ground rather than get down on the inside where it was deep. Unbridled continued to show a slight advantage as the pair swung for home. At this point Fisk, who was out slightly from the deep going, roused Faneuil Miss and she responded by drawing away from her rival. Once she obtained command, Fisk put away his whip and kept her in hand to the end. Unbridled was not disgraced in his defeat and surely will have to be considered regardless of track conditions in later stakes events.
