1 1 j Run 5,000 Turf Handicap At Atlantic City Labor Day 1 ATLANTIC CITY, N. J.; May 21.— The 2 richest grass course event in the country 1 will be run Labor Day, September 5, with the initial running of the .5,000 Atlantic j City Turf Handicap at the course out Black -Horse Pike. This mile and a sixteenth . special, open to three-year-olds and up- i ward, will be one of the major events on ; a program now being arranged for the 45-day summer session, opening August 11 ! and terminating October 1. * Last season marked the inaugural of i grass racing in this state, with the infield ; being thrown open for competition during the latter days of the meeting. This branch of the sport became immediately popular with patrons of the seashore course, so much so that it was determined to make it one of the main features of the summer session immediately ahead. With this end in view, the 5,000 Turf Handicap was placed on the schedule, in the belief that the top grass performers — east and west — would be* attracted. Track superintendent Harold Johnson is confident that the seasoned and toughened infield course will be able to withstand the "wear and tear" of the many races leading up to the Turf Handicap.
