4 Ted M. Repeats in Montchanin As He Leads Cer Vantes Home Foul Claimed by Rider of * Runner-Up Isnt Allowed; Pilaster in Popular Tally DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 8. — Demonstrating his superiority in the Montchanin Handicap for the second successive week, A. E. Morris Ted M., this afternoon accounted for the second running of that popular series to bring to 48 his total point score. By the simple medium of showing more speed and tenacity than his opposition, the Peace Chance three-year-old bounded to the wire one length before Clover-Del Stables Cer Vantes, then was forced to withstand a claim of foul lodged by Bobbie Strange, rider of the second horse. Two lengths behind the top pair came Mrs. S. S. Zells Desert Ruler, who like Ted M., won a division of last weeks series No. 1. Ted M. raced the mile and a furlongs ni 1:50% and paid .30. Ridden by Bobby Martin who substituted for Bob Wholey, Ted M. sprinted to the front early and held a .commanding advantage to the stretch, not a single challenge having developed to that point. However, he attempted to get out as he turned into the home lone, and, with a less experienced rider, may have been successful. Martin steadied his mount, however, then set him down for the drive. Martins urging proved effective in the final test, and Ted M. held his rival safe, although keeping him in a bit close along the inside. It was for that reason that Strange lodged his objection, but the stewards felt the offense not enough to warrant disqualification. Now Has 48 Points With 48 points to his credit through two victories, Ted M. holds an advantage of 18 points over Desert Ruler, who has garnered 30 points through a victory and a third. The first four horses in total points following the fith and final running will divide an additional award of ,000. Henry L. Straus Pilaster, who won 10 races and 2,000 during the 1948 campaign, won his first purse of the current season when he beat a small field in the Gooch Mansion, which followed the Montchanin. The five-year-old Pilate gelding was mildly urged by Carson Kirk and paid .20. Two lengths behind the winner, Mrs. Mary Robinsons Halconero took a photo decision from Palatine Stables Dobodura. Pilaster, who was shipped here after be- ing badly beaten in the recent Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park, is being pointed for the 5,000 Sussex Handicap here Saturday, June 25. Greentree Stables Brick, three-year-old St. Germans colt, earned the opportunity of accompanying Wine List postward in Saturdays 5,000 Kent Stakes when he was the winner of this afternoons mile and a sixteenth third race. With Jimmy Stout doing the urging, Brick prevailed by one length over Brandywine Stables Low and High, with Edward Werbers Vamanos another two lengths behind. The winner was a .20 favorite and turned in the time of 1:44%.
