Jockey Dispute Settled For Pawtucket Opening Riders Complain of Height of Inner Rail Encircling Track NARRAGANSETT PARK, Pawtucket, R. I., June 8. — A Dispute between the jockeys and the management of Narragan-sett Park threatened to postpone the opening of the 28-day meeting at this point today. James E. Dooley, president of the Narraganettt Racing Association, was in conference with representatives of the local division of the Jockeys Guild all morning and it was not until 1:00 P. M. that the riders agreed to fulfill their riding engagements of the afternoon. The complaint was lodged with Dooley after the riders refused to accept mounts because they are not satisfied with height of the inner rail which encircles the track. They also were not satisfied with the ambulance, alleging it was of antique vintage. George Hettinger, John "Red" Pollard and Joe Wagner represented the jockeys. After a lengthy discussion, Judge Dooley promised to have a construction crew raise the rail to safety heights. The Gansett prexy agreed also to have a modern ambulance on hand. Judge Dooley and his associates have made comparisons with the height of the rails at other major tracks throughout the country and will be guided accordingly. This arrangement met with the approval of all concerned.
