Nine Derby Contestants, Including Winner, Count Turf, Named for Kent * Delawares 5,000 Prize For Three-Year-Olds Lures Total of 82 Nominations STANTON, Del., May 21. — Nine Kentucky Derby starters, including the victorious Count Turf, are among the 82 three-year-olds nominated for Delaware Parks Kent Stakes, to be run June 23, racing secretary J. Gilbert Haus sannounced today. The mile and a sixteenth Kent is expected to have a gross value of approximately 1,600. It carries 5,000 in added money. Count Turf is no stranger to Delaware Park. Prior to winning the Derby, his only other stake victory was here last year in the Dover Stakes, on June 21. Earlier, on May 30, he was beaten, a nose by Royal Mustang in Delawares Christiana Stakes. Other Derby starters in the Kent are Cain Hoy Stables beaten favorite, Battle Morn, who finished sixth after being far back early; Greentree Stables " Hall of Fame and Big Stretch, Mrs. Wallace Gil-roys Timely " Reward, C. V. Whitneys Counterpoint and Mameluke, Mrs. Nora Mikells Repetoire, in front at the mile in the Derby but well back at the finish, and Cary C. Boshamers King Clover. Among other smart sophomores made eligible for the Kent but who, for various reasons, did not get to Churchill Downs, are Brookfield Farms Intent, Sam A. Mason H.s To Market, Putnam Stables Lord Putnam, Hal Price Headleys Jumbo, Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Yildiz, Larry S. Mac-Phails General Staff, Joseph Tuccis Bob Considine, Alan T. Clarkes Senator Joe and Greentrees Northern Star.v Five fillies are. included in the list of nominees— Carolina Queen, from the Bos-hamer barn; Mrs. Esther DuPont Weirs Merry Xmas, Belair Studs Vulcania, Bo-banet Stables Brazen Brat and George A. Garretts Derrynane. The Kent, an allowance race, was a handicap prior to 1942. It was won last year by William Goetz Your Host. The Greentree Stable of John Hay "Jock" Whitney and his sister, Mrs. Charles Shipman Payson, leads the Kent nominators numerically with four entries. In addition to Hall of Fame, Big Stretch and Northern Star, Greentree named Ban-joist. Several other stables nominated three horses.
