Sea Fan Scores in Years Third Try Leads Quiz Song Home at Pimlico Hansman Has Bohemia Stable Miss Length and Quarter in C lea r; Atten tion Ma rk on Top By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 24. — Bohemia Stables Sea Fan, sharpened by a pair of New Jersey efforts, led from just after the start this afternoon to accomplish a driving victory in the featured Green Spring Valley Purse, a five arid one-half furlongs dash for three-year-old fillies. Palatine Stables Quiz Song, who made the trip here with the winner, was second over Mrs. M. MacNeilles Orb. Sea Fan, a daughter of Peace Chance, impressed last season by winning her first two starts in breezing fashion, then was unsuccessful in three other starts and was turned out after September. Her initial efforts this spring gave assurance that she retained her early foot and today she was timed in 1:07% over a good track. Slightly favored over Nydrie Stables Tides, the winner paid .20 to her numerous backers in the crowd of 8,425. Larney Hansman was the winning booter. After starter Eddie Blind had found considerable trouble "loading" Sea Fan into the starting gate, she broke -alertly and assumed command in the opening furlong. Quiz Songs challenge was a persistent one, but she was not equal to the task and weakened in the late stages while holding Orb safe by two lengths. Tides Off Poorly Tides broke poorly in the dash, leaving the gate last. She advanced her position steadily on the turn, but then faltered when set down for the drive. She finished fifth in the field of seven fillies. Nick Shuk, leading rider in Maryland this spring, and the successful pilot atop Tacaro in the days third race, completed a saddle double when he drove home Boba-net Stables Attention Mark in the mile and a sixteenth sixth race. Edwin Werbers Vamanos was a threatening second, beaten only a half length in 1:46. Third position was filled by Nellie Annarinos My Nell, with Weatherman and Trout Lure completing the field. Attention Mark, a four-year-old Attention colt, held as much as a 10-length lead at one stage in the run along the back-stretch and was still eight in front with a half-mile to go. He shortened stride on the final turn and through the stretch, however, and was having his advantage reduced through the final sixteenth. Attention Mark was a solid favorite and paid .20. j
