Plan ,500 Sportsmanship Awards for Major Leaguers . NEW YORK, N. Y., May 24 UP.— Major league baseball players are going to be rewarded for good conduct. To be known as the Jack Singer Awards for good sportsmanship, the player chosen as the most gentlemanly on the "field in each league will receive a ,500 war bond. The 14 men — one from each of the other clubs in the league — chosen as the best on their teams will be given a 00 bond. Singer was an American war correspondent who was killed in 1942 when the aircraft carrier Wasp was torpedoed in the Pacific The awards will be made annually and are being sponsored by the Bowman Gum Company of Philadelphia. A panel of seven sports experts will serve as judges to choose the winners.
