_____ * Second Season of Night Racing Opens at Fair mount Park Track Many Improvements Made * At Collinsville Course; Full Field Named for Feature By PAT CAUDILL Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., May 24. — Racing returns to this one-mile oval tomorrow night with the presentation of a topnotch nine-race program that will usher in a meeting that will continue through the holiday program of July 4. Night racing will prevail with the exception of holidays and on these days, Memorial Day and the aforementioned, Fourth of July, programs will be presented during the afternoons. General manager Edwin C. Moon announces the plant is in full readiness and the fans will witness an environment that has undergone a complete face lifting. The entire surroundings have been freshly painted, a new roof added to the appearance of the grandstand, the parking area resurfaced and additional tote machines placed in the section behind the press-box as well as other improvements that will make racing more pleasant. Racing secretary John J. Klucina has 700 horses available from which to draw up the daily programs and among this number are campaigners that raced recently in Chicago. The caliber of racers here this season far exceeds any that have ever filled the barn area of this course and patrons can easily expect well-balanced fields throughout the meeting. Nowfoggin May Be Favored The top event of the opening night program will be the seventh race, a six-furlong dash for three-year-olds and upward which has been named for the Norwine Chevrolet Company, Inc., of Collinsville. Designed for racers entered for a claiming price of ,500, the contest drew a full field and of the group, seven of them have visited the winners circle this year. Edward Luthers Nowloggin appears to hold a slight edge over his rivals as this son of Pharned is presently racing in top form. He won three consecutive outings at Sportsmans Park within the past month and showed an impressive effort in his last outing when he finished second to Jolly Gremlin at Beulah Park. He can expect keen competition from such as the Verde Stock Farms Hen Sprig, F. Randos Kapinisca, the Sunflower Stables Ariel Pal, A. Tennis Mister Perfect and. Repartee, who is owned by the partnership of J. Ostergrant and A. Kelem. The field is completed by E. F. Morans Earl Jr., H. E. Rileys Speedvine, Silver Creek Farms Dandy G., and T. McCarthys Ruths Vacation. Mrs. E. Oros consistent Fun Quest and A. Kellys Reade Castle are listed as also eligibles. Supporting the feature will be a full field of middle distance runners over a mile and sixteenth. The event appears very evenly matched, but with a winning effort to his credit in his last outing at Sportsmans Park, Third Spin, owned by the Sunflower stable, will perhaps rule public choice in the wagering. He will be strongly opposed by Mrs. Mary Phillips Plucky Marge, an old favorite at the local course, and H. R. Finleys Ugly Prince. Post time for the first race will be 8:30 p. m. and as in the past, Daily Double wagering will be conducted on the first and second events. EDWIN C. MOON — General manager at Fairmourit Park where the second season of night racing will begin tonight.
