BENJAMIN F. LINDHEIMER— Executive director of Arlington Park where the Chicagoland racing will hold forth for the next 36 days. Inaugural Inaugural at at ArlingtonToday; ArlingtonToday; Counterpoint Counterpoint Belmont Belmont Victor Victor Field of Twelve Fast Sprinters Seeks Myrtlewood Handicap Roman Bath -Wine List Duo Favored as Stake-Studded Meeting Gets Under Way By J. J. MURPHY Staff Correspondent ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, HI., June 16.— The powerful Hasty House Farm stable will start the -favorites in the first feature of the Arlington Parks 36-day meeting when they send Wine List and Roman Bath postward in the 5,000 added Myrtlewood Handicap Monday. The Harry Trotsek-trained racers, following their smashing performances .in the Edward J. Fleming Memorial Handicap at the Lincoln Fields meeting would seem to have an edge on the 10 others, the best of whom appears to be John A. Kinards Johns Joy. Also in the line-up will be Breezy Crest Stables Yellmantown and Helen S. Reinemans Eagle River, both of whom will race as an entry being trained by Lawrence H. Thompson; the Calumet Farm stables three-year-old Fanfare, the distance-running Curandero from the King Ranch stable; Mrs. Frances Genters Unbridled, the Irish runner, Ballydam, owned by Mrs. H. Toef-fel; W. J. Waldens consistent Circus Clown, as well as. Eugene Constantin, Jr.s, Prop and E. Barry Ryans Big Story. Prop Seeking Repeat in Feature The Myrtlewood will be staged at the six-furlong distance and it will mark the eleventh running of the stake which was inaugurated back in 1941. This year it brings out a full field with Prop, last years winner,- a potential long shot on the roster. Public support of the Hasty House entry will not only be based on" their Fleming races but on their previous achievements. Roman Bath was winner of the Crete Handicap early in the Lincoln Fields meeting and was eased to Wine List in the Fleming. At that, Wine List who won the Aqueduct Handicap last year set a new track mark of 1:16% for the six and one-half furlongs. Johns Joy disappointed in both starts in this sector/ He seemed to have some excuse first time out but did not appear to be in any .difficulty in his last outing in the Fleming. Since that time, however, he has turned in the fastest three-quarter workout over the Washington Park course going the distance in 1:11. Johns Joy set a track mark at Churchill Downs in the spring but failed to run back to that race. Fanfare Lone Three-Year-Old Named Fanfare, winner of the Derby Trial, was a distinct disappointment in the Peabody Memorial. After showing a flash of early speed he backed up and was beaten off at the end. Eagle River, after turning in some good morning moves, was well regarded first time out but failed and he turned in an even poorer effort in his next essay. Curandero has heretofore been known as a distance horse and it is difficult to imagine him sprinting with these. His most important successes last season were in the Whirlaway Stakes at Washington Park and the Debonair Handicap at Hollywood Park. Both races were at one mile. He was fourth in the mile and quarter Santa Anita Maturity. Unbridled is a stablemate of the good three-year-old colt Roughn Tumble. Continued on Page Forty-Four Arlington Inaugurates Meeting With Twelve in Myrtlewood Continued from Page One The secondary feature on opening day is the Silyer Jubilee Purse, a ,500 purse for .three-year-olds. This six-furlong dash has drawn 10 top three-year-old prospects, including Ada L. Rices Vincent X. F., who is nominated for most of the-three-year-old stakes at Arlington and Washington Parks. Others are King Ranchs Black Douglas, Calumet Farms Sunshine Nell and Tom Grays Robust. Racing secretary Frank Kilroe had little trouble filling the events for opening day-and has surrounded the two top races with a good card. Three of the remaining affairs are over- a distance of ground, with the Warrenville, which holds down the third spot, being about the best. It is for three-year-olds and has in it some horses who have been racing at the Lincoln Fields meeting as well as a few newcomers. Post time for Monday and on every other day of the week, with the exception of Saturdays will be 2:00 p. m. Saturdays first post time will be 1:30.
