THAT AINT HAY, prominently placed from the beginning while on the outside, responded gamely when set down for the drive and, after taking command inside the stretch, won drawing away. PERSIANA alternated in setting the early pace with SHATTERED, held on willingly enough during the stretch run, but, under pressure, was unable to withstand the top one. SHATTERED gave way suddenly midway of the final furlong. DIBILLANE raced evenly through the late stages without mishap. GRACE MAE lacked a rally. VICTORIAN DOG and JOGGINS were always outrun. PUNSTER was through after three furlongs. EL PAIR ME INJURED HIS KNEE WHEN FRACTIOUS AT THE POST AND WAS DECLARED. ALL WAGERS ON EL PAIR ME WERE ORDERED REFUNDED BY THE STEWARDS. DASHA held sway until well inside the stretch, before faltering. INSIST dropped back immediately after the beginnig, came again near the end and finished determinedly. DIXIE PEBBLE, much the best, was carried out steadily through the stretch when CHALLEPORT drifted to the outside, then under clever handling was up in the final stride to outgame the latter. A claim of foul against CHALLEPORT by the rider of DIXIE PEBBLE and an inquiry from the stewards was not necessary. CHALLEPORT held a clear lead nearing the furlong marker, bore out steadily during the late stage and when unable to be persevered with was unable to hold the top one. HADAMAR moved up menacingly on the outside entering the stretch, then weakened. LEAPOLINO passed tiring horses. FIVE A. M. failed to stay while saving ground along the rail. WITHDRAWN made the. pace to -the stretch under steady rating, faltered slightly when called upon for her best effort, but had enough left to maintain a clear advantage over LIKE YOU. The latter, slow to reach best stride, closed with a belated burst of speed in a sharp effort. MINOROME drifted out slightly while tiring during the late stages. NORCAL, bothered slightly by MINOROME when the latter came out during the drive, was unable t6 reach the leaders. OPEN WAY had no apparent excuse. SEE TOP was unable to keep up. FRISK raced ARCHIBALDO into defeat to assume a slight lead before going a half mile, held a clear lead entering the stretch and, though weakening during the late stages, held HER GIFT safe, The latter came out for the drive and gradually was getting to the leader. FIRST TENET, outrun early as usual, finished With good courage in a sharp effort. MAE AGNES rallied too late to become an endangering factor. THUNDERJET, forced to take up when in close quarters down the backstretch, was guided to the outside on the near turn, ducked to the inside nearing the sixteenth marker, then tired. BRILLIANCE, slow to reach best stride, responded readily when set down for the drive and, after disposing of MONTAYR, won drawing away. MONTAYR came between horses to reach the lead entering the stretch, but under punishment failed to maintain this advantage. MIST 0* DAWN raced forwardly from the beginning while on the outside, but faltered when called upon for her best efforts. S. McLAUGHLIN drifted out on the final turn, then finished with good energy when straightened. ROMAN ROAD raced evenly through the late stages without mishap. ROSE BED quit, as did BANOVINA. KOSADUS, under snug restraint during the early running, steadily improved his position on the outside to the stretch, reached best stride when shaken up for the drive and, after disposing of MR. FOX, drew clear. MR. FOX made the pace to the furlong marker while sating ground next to the rail and held on tenaciously in a sharp effort. INSEPARABLE, always within striking distance while on the outside, moved up boldly inside the stretch, then faltered. SEAWARD recovered gamely after stumbling leaving the gate, raced in nearest pursuit ,t f the early leader for six furlongs, but failed to respond when roused for the ultimate test. DR.
