HBPA Asks Detroit Daily Distribution of 0,000 Track Proposes 00 Increase; Both Sides Will Meet Tomorrow DETROIT, Mich., June 16.— Harry W. Lindy, vice-president of the Michigan division of the Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Association, and the members of the organizations grievance committee, composed of Henry Forrest, George White, Henry Johnston, and Mark Leach, -petitioned the Michigan Racing Association for the following purse distribution when they met with track officials on June 11. A 0,00.0 daily purse distribution, an ,800 minimum with a minimum of ,000 for horses running for a claiming price of ,000 or more and a gradual stepping up for better class of horses. A ,500 race to be carded on Wednesdays and a ,000 race to be programmed on Saturdays. Any purse increases emanating from the above deliberations effective as of the program" for June 11, 1951. The tracks counter proposal was an increase of 00 per day for thesucceeding four-week period with no increase in, the prevailing minimum, any increases to be effective only for horses entered to be claimed for ,500, or more; and for the final three weeks, a possible further increase of 00 on the same basis. After- turfmen met and discussed the Michigan Racing Associations offer, vice-president Lindy scheduled a general horsemens meeting for Tuesday, at 7:30 p. m., at Castle Garden Hall, 28900 Plymouth Road, Plymouth, Mich. R. O. Read, national president of the HBPA, will be on hand for the session and Michigan Racing c Association officials have been invited to attend. President E.vE. Dale Shaffer, vice-president George Haggarty, and general manager Robert Leavitt, of the MRA, stated today that they will meet with the horsemen Tuesday night. Present indications point to an amicable settlement of the local purse dispute. Cool heads In both factions seem to have a clear picture of each side in the matter.
