ODE, hustled along on the back-stretch, was placed under light restraint when unable to match strides with MANGOHICK, regained the lead when the latter weakened and won fully extended. EASY WHIRL, jiever far-"back, threatened boldly in the stretch, but was not good enough. SPATS was forced to race a trifle wide on the turn, swung wide leaving the turn and closed willingly. COUNTERPOINT, in close attendance of the pace from the beginning .:took command between calls after a half mile, permitted COUNT TURF to go to the lead along the backstretch, regained the lead when the latter gave way, drifted out a trifle entering the stretch and drew away under mild hand encouragement. BATTLEFIELD, never far back but forced to pick spots to avoid trouble, went up between horses when ready to make his bid, challenged mildly in the stretch, but was no match in the drive. BATTLE ORN hesitated at the beginning, improved position from the outside throughout to be a sharp contender, but lacked a menacing rally. ROYA MUSTANG dropped back between horses on the backstretch, saved ground thereafter, went through on the rail in the stretch and tired. SONIC made the pace in the opening half mile, was eased back after entering the backstretch, was guided out on the far turn, but failed to respond. STEADFAST saved ground while moving into a contending position and gave way in the final quarter mile. COUNT TURF, well placed from -the beginning, moved through on the inside to take the lead orr tile backstretch and was through midway of the final turn.
