RED RELIC made the pace to the stretch under steady rating and continued on gamely thereafter when subjected to intermittent urging. BORDER SON, slow to attain best stride, came out for the drive, but was unable to seriously endanger the top one. BUSY BLUES, shuffled back slightly on the final turn, failed to sufficiently respond when clear during the stretch run. NIRINGO tired, as did SEVEN SPADES. EDGAR J. M. and EVAS TRANCE were outrun. PHANTOM SONG, a sharp factor from the beginning, disposed of ASTRONAUT with a rush nearing the furlong marker and steadily drew clear whileN in hand. KAZ came fast after being shaken for the drive closing with good energy, but was no match for the top one. FINICAL lugged in through the late stages and was unable to seriously endanger, the winner. ASTRONAUT faltered when punished. CARDINAL SONG was in very close quarters next to the rail throughout the drive. EPONBUSH was unable to reach the lead and tired. TEXAS LEAGUER had no apparent mishap. PRIMED lacked speed. GO MAN, forced to take up slightly when in close quarters on the far turn, was unable to recover. IN THE ROUND began sluggishly and showed nothing. PLAY SCHOLAR, forwardly placed from the start, bobbled and lost his rider nearing the three-furlong marker. OLD BAASKET steadily improved her position to attain a contending position entering the stretch, responded readily when placed to pressure and, after wearing down HEED ME, won going away. The latter reached the lead between calls during the stretch run, then held on gamely in a sharp effort. CHATEAU came fast when clear during the late stages and finished with good courage. PINE CONE, much used early, had little left. MARTYR tired. GLEN COVE failed to stay. BEST AUBER and MOOSE MOOSE were always outrun. FLYING RECORD quit. The latter raced in closest pursuit of the leader from immediately after the start, was unable to overtake the latter during the late stages, but easily bested the others. FINAL POLE raced evenly through the stretch without mishap. COMMAND ME was unable to improve his position when subjected to brisk urging. INDICATIVE tired. WILLY NILLY and GOULASH were outrun. MIELLEUX never was dangerous. SKYSWEEPER retired after flashing brief early speed. OLD PROSECUTOR began sluggishly. WHIPPERSNAP-PER and the others never were formidable. STRAIGHT FACE, unhurried when outrun early, steadily improved his position to attain the runner-up position nearihg the furlong marker, disposed of MANDINGO when shaken and briskly drew clear. BASSANIO, steadied within striking distance of the early leaders, responded to stern Urging when set down for the stretch run, but was unable to seriously endanger the wiKner. MANDINGO, a sharp factor from the start, assumed a commanding advantage leaving the final turn, then shortened stride when challenged. ROYAL VALE, far-back early, slipped through along the inner rail for the stretch run, but failed to rally when punished. IMPASSE tired. ARMAGEDDON raced forwardly to the near turn, then faltered. BRUNSWICK began sluggishly. FIREBRAKE was unable to keep- up. MARIE-GILBERT was through after three furlongs.
