Gambetta, Colleoni Coupling Favored Girdler Juveniles Vie With FiVe Others at Detroit in Romeo Rotary Purse Today DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., May 31. The Romeo Rotary Purse, a five-eighths mile condition race, which attracted an overnight field of seven two-year-olds, representing six interests, will headline a well-balanced program Tuesday at this popular Michigan Mile track. Along with the feature, racing, secretary Charles J. McLennan and the members of his staff arranged some good supporting offerings, best of which is the Norwest Exchange Purse at six furlongs for three-year-olds. Kenneth Noe, one-time riding star and a successful trainer since giving up a colorful saddle career, will send out an entry in the Romeo Rotary Purse; Thomas M. Girdler s Colleoni and Gambetta. Under the allowance terms of the juvenile dash, Colleoni, a winner at Churchill Downs, will shoulder 117 pounds while Gambetta, a homebred daughter of My Babu and Rough Shod, n., victress in her last three Derby oval engagements, will take up 119 pounds. Jockey Robert Lee Baird will have the mount on one of the Girdler starters in the Romeo Rotary Purse. Gambetta stamped herself as one of the best of her sex and age division this season when she captured the fifty-fourth running of the historic Debutante Stakes on Kentucky Derby Day. Coming from off the early pace under a steady ride from Eddie Arcaro, the Girdler miss .defeated Clifford Mooers Serry by two lengths while the G and G Stables Timely Story saved third honors in the band of 14 Debutante Stakes starters. Gambetta stepped the five furlongs of- the Louisville stake in :59, an excellent performance indeed. Principal Opponents Major opposition for the Girdler pair probably will be provided by L. O. Bachus Mark Question, 120, and Mrs. Lottie Wolfs Ciderman, a recent winner here, pegged at 117 pounds.
