Schmidl Injured in Spill BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 31 Veteran jockey Albert Schmidl suffered a possible skull fracture when spilled from W. G. Williams Play Scholar in todays second race. The boy was taken to Physicians Hospital, Jackson Heights, where stitches were taken in three different lacerations of his head. It was not possible to take X-rays today, owingr to the necessity for using an anesthetic,, but pictures will be taken Tuesday. Schmidl will remain in the hospital for at least three days, even if it develops that he has escaped a fracture. Play Scholar ran up on the heels of Kaz near the three-furlong pole, while Schmidl was hit by the hoof of Host Gogi, who tried . to jump over him as he fell in his path.
