COLOR GUARD, well placed from the start, responded to strong handling entering the stretch and, after -disposing of RAINTREE, closed gamely under urging to withstand OUR KITE. The latter, reserved to the last quarter mile, was taken out slightly for the stretch run and finished well under punishment, but could not overtake COLOR GUARD. GULF STREAM, in hand to the last three-eighths mile, moved up boldly during the drive, but was unable to get to the top pair. CHAIN REACTION, away fast, held on well to the final furlongs, then weakened. ANDROS lacked early speed. RAINTREE raced prominently to the stretch, but had nothing left for the drive. GREAT PARHAM, in hand to the upper turn, moved up fast on the outside after leaving the backstretch, drifted out at the stretch turn, then took command from GAMBLER and drew clear when ridden out The latter, hustled to the front early, set the pace to the stretch while engaging EX-GLORIA, continued willingly when challenged by GREAT PARHAM but was not good enough for the winner, although easily best of the others. ENTHUSED lacked early foot but finished fairly well under brisk urging. JIMINY CRICKET tired while racing in close quarters through the stretch. PREFECT was never dangerous and had no excuse. BERYLDON failed to stay after showing early speed. EX-GLORIA, much used engaging GAMBLER to the stretch, had nothing left for the drive. -WAIT UP began alertly but dropped out of serious contention immediately after the break. CALM BAY, never far back, responded willingly when setdown in the drive, but was not good enough for LANDMARK GAL. STEAMBOAT BILL saved ground throughout, but could not. reach the leaders when hard ridden through the stretch. DATELINE, a sharp factor early, raced prominently "to the stretch, then weakened. SQUARE DANCER lacked early speed and raced wide through the stretch. WILLIAM TELL had no mishap. OUR SUSAN lacked early speed. RUSHING was never dangerous. ALL BRITISH was outrun. WRANGLER showed nothing. LONE PILOT had early speed, but failed to stay. HERMAN L. was through early.
