Beulah Closes Before Crowd of Over 12,000 Bentons Lucy, Gold Denarius Return 31.60 Daily Double By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondent BEULAH PARK, Grove City, Ohio, May 31. Ideal summer weather greeted the record-breaking crowd "which was estimated at being over the 12,000 mark for todays Memorial Day card, the closing day of the nineteen-day session here. The tempera- -ture remained in the high 70s throughout the day and the track was lightning fast for the events. Gale Osborne saddled one of his own campaigners for his fourteenth victory of the meeting in the opening event, the first half of the Daily Double. The leading trainer sent out Bentons Lucy, under the guidance of jockey Norman Hart, and the Four Freedoms filly went six furlongs in a rather dull 1:13, to be two lengths the best of R. Hobsons Big Inch. Favored in the betting at 3 to 2, the winner returned to her many supporters. C. Wisbeys Gold Denarius, which was able to garner a set of brackets while 60 to 1 the first time out this year, repeated a similar victory in the second race. The -Sacaweista gelding was an easy four and one-half lengths in front of F. Schultzs Victory Flay and, while he has the type of record which indicates an "off" track is preferred, he and jockey Guillermo Silva went six panels in 1 : 13, flat, and returned , .2.80 to win. The Daily Double, as a 10 to 7 combina- ttbn, was worth 51.60.
