Porterhouse Works Mile . In 1:41V af Belmont Trainer Well "Satisfied Although Workmate Is Clocked in 1 :41 BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 31. Three-year-olds who are expected to meet in Saturdays Peter Pan Handicap at a mile and a furlong, and who are eligible to the classic Belmont Stakes ata mile and a half the following week end, dominated the workout periods Sunday morning and today. Several clever trials were noted by the work-watchers. Sunday morning Llangollen Farms Porterhouse, who may be the favorite for both, stakes, stepped a mile in 1:41 Ms. The colt broke three or four lengths behind his stoblemate Ordained and was still a length behind the useful sophomore at the end of the trial, but, it is by no means the first time that Porterhouse has been outworked, then come up with a "big" race. Ordained was clocked in 1:41. Incidentally, a horse from another stable joined Porterhouse early in the prep and it appeared that Mrs. M. E. Persons "colt tried to ease himself up a bit as that horse stopped. Trainer Charley Whittingham was fully satisfied wth Porterhouses work and radiates confidence in his charge. This morning, Greentree Stables Palm Tree and Diving .Board both worked good miles, with the former finishing particularly well. Palm Tree was clocked in 1:39, getting the final quarter in :26 and last eighth iii :.13. He stepped the first half in :48 and five furlongs in 1:00. Diving Board," was also worked alone, was clocked in i:40, the last quarter in :26. He got the three furlongs in :36 and half in :48. Both colts are eligible to the Peter Pan and Belmont. ,C: V. Whitneys Fisherman, who has been training steadily since the Kentucky Derby, put in another good mile this morning in 1:40, under light restraint all the way. The little son of Phalanx, who is aiming primarily for the Peter Pan, stepped the half in :50 and six furlongs in 1:15, for a final quarter in :25. Maine Chance Farms Jet Action, who turned in a disappointing race in the Preak-ness after winning the Withers Mile, appeared to tire slightly at the end of h. mile in 1:42. - James Cox Bradys Artismo, who is eligible to the Peter. Pan and Belmont, but disappointed in bis first two starts this year and was reported to have turned in a poor blood count recently, jtfent an easy six furlongs in 1:15 in company with the older Landlocked. The pair stayed together all the way.
