MURPHY SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 5. — Rock Pilot, representing the B and H Stable, and trained by George Ellis, registered a clever and impressive victory in the featured Thomas D. Nash Memorial Handicap here this afternoon. With Melvin Duhon at the reins for his second score of the afternoon, Rock Pilot galloped in front for the entire trip and won by two lengths from Validon, with Jimmy the One finishing third, and Fogonazo, fourth. Sir Tribal, the favorite, and Silver State, the second choice, were beaten off. Rock Pilot splashed the mile and a sixteenth in the mud in 1:54%, and paid 5. With Adams Off Ox and Mr. Favor withdrawn due to track conditions, a field of seven went to the post. Soon after the start had been effected, Rock Pilot, trying for his second triumph in as many starts at the meeting, flashed to the front and was soon three lengths in command, with Silver State second and Sir Tribal third. The positions were unchanged in the first five furlongs, but, by that time, Rock Pilot had a five-length edge. Nearing the stretch turn, Sir Tribal and Silver State began to drop back, and Validon loomed as the only one with a possible chance to catch the leader. He was not equal to the task, however. Both Jimmy the One and Fogonazo passed tiring horses. A- more disagreeable af ternoon_ would have been difficult to imagine. A cold rain fell throughout the day and the racing strip was deep in sloppy mud. Nevertheless, 1.4,034 hardy souls braved the elements to witness the nine-race bill. The program opened with a score for Hippobon, a three-year-old who was making his first start since last August. With Dudley Vandenborre in the saddle the gelding scooted into a good early lead and was never headed. The Daily Double paid 07.40 when the favored Vyr, under the handling of Job Jessop, showed the way throughout in the second to win by six lengths. Vyr was claimed by T. A. Janicki for ,500. Lush Lie, who was eased up against similar "company in her last start here on a heavy track, had her running togs on in the fifth race and came from behind to score and pay 8.20. She beat Olympia Blend by a half-length. Robert Dever was in the saddle.
