I./ May 5. — J. and P.s Venutis Pipe of Peace was still smoking hot in the New London Handicap this afternoon, the Amphitheatre gelding running down Peter Fullers favored Oclirock to win by a head. Pipe of Peace who had won the mile and one-sixteenth Hartford Handicap last week over a mile and one-sixteenth distance in a furious stretch drive, showed the same kind of race in todays seven-furlong test. Yock Tom, coupled with Oclirock, was two lengths back in third place in the field of seven. Pipe of Peace was again ridden by Harold "Red" Keene at 111 pounds, two of which was overweight and paid 6.60 and covered the seven furlongs in 1:26% over a fast track. Oclirock, -topweight at 121 pounds, only succumbed in the last couple of strides. A crowd of 20,162 turned out on a windy but sunny afternoon for the semi-final program of the Lincoln Downs session. Pipe of Peace had won last Saturdays Hartford Handicap, his first-victory of the year. Todays score was his second in 17 starts this season. The winners end was worth ,500. Lucky William oiltsped Yock Tom in the early part of the New London Handicap with Oclirock, the other part of the favored entry, a close third. Double Bid, Burnt Child and Opera Light came next, with Pipe of Peace as usual, last. Lucky William led along the back stretch for a short time, Yock Tom finally coming up along the rail to take the lead. Oclirock was on the outside on the pair and poised for the move. Going into the far turn, the entry sandwiched Lucky William, Oclirock ready and willing to take over the pacemaking duties. j
