HolIywoodGoldCup List Includes Swaps Ellsworth Speedster Among 62 Nominated for 00,000 Classic to Be Run July 14 i HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 5. — Headed by Swaps, the Rex Ellsworth speedster, 62 of Americas top thoroughbreds have been nominated for the Hollywood Gold Cup on July 14, racing secretary John Maluvius announced today. The Gold Cup, one of the worlds richest races for which the winner is guaranteed 00,000 net and the .other awards are 0,000, -0,000 and 0,000, annually climaxes the Hollypark season and draws the cream of the three-year-olds and up. It is run at a mile and a quarter. Swapand is destined to find outstanding competition in the Hollywood Park classic this year. Among the horses named are six winners of 10 00,000 races. They include Bobby Brocato, Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Kerrs recent winner of the Santa Anita and San Juan Capistrano handicaps; King Ranchs Rejected, defending champion in the Gold Cup and winner of the Westerner in 1953 and the Santa Anita Handicap in 1954; Alfred G. Vanderbilts Social Outcast, who flew out from New York to win the Sunset Handicap at Hollypark last year; Maine Chance Farms Jet Action, 1955 Washington Park Handicap winner; Helbush Farms Poona H, Santa Anita Handicap champion of 1955, and Correlation, Robert S. Lytles Florida Derby and Wood Memorial winner of 1954. Numerous Foreign-Breds Named The Gold Cup roster also includes numerous foreign-bred stars who have been imported with the big Hollywood Park championship event as their main objective. Greentop Farms Cromis, a recent arrival from Australia where he was a weight-for-age champion; Mrs. Petite Lu-ellwitz Telyar, second in the Victoria Derby, and George Bucknams. Nagpuni, conqueror or Bobby Brocato at Santa Anita, head the Australian-bred hopefuls. Other foreigners include Collins and Dicks Mistralor, a French stakes winner, and- L. B. Mayers Gladiador, also from France; C. A. Pelayos Tatan, champion three-year-old last year in Argentina; Alberta Ranchs Prefect II and Bright Night, Yolo Stables Bezaha, Neil McCarthys Ar-tarsula, and Rainbow Stables Ozbeg, all from Ireland; Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Kerrs Elixir n from Argentina, and R C Stables Limelight and Mrs. M. Boyers Pirnie from England.
