Chevy Chase Purse Finale at Laurel Pimlico Inaugurates Meet On Tuesday With 00,000 Preakness Set for* May 19 LAUREL, Md., May 5. — Mondays racing program, featured by the ,500 Chevy Chase Purse, at a mile and one-sixteenth on the turf course, brings to a conclusion the 17-day Laurel" spring meeting. On the following afternoon Pimlico launches a 23-day session which runs through June 2, conflicting for the final full week with Delaware Park. The Chevy Chase matches a well-balanced field of seven horses, including Cedar Farms Our Dance and C. Mahlon Klines Kaster, recently first and second, respectively, in a local grass offering. Others in this test are Auburn Farms Powder Flask, North Downs Farms Sun Ruler II. and Brae Burn Farms Robin Hood. The- Maryland Jockey Club vmeeting will feature the 80th running of the 00,000 Preakness Stakes, second jewell in the Preakness Stakes, second jewel in the turf calendar is scheduled- for Saturday, May 19. According, to Louis Pondfield, executive director of the Maryland Jockey Club, prospects are bright for a good meeting. Six stakes, other than the Preakness, brought a fine response from horsemen and applications for stable space have come from many of the leading establishments. Many stables will campaign a division of their outfits at Pimlico while others perform in New York and New Jersey. Sprint Opening-Day Feature For the opening program Tuesday, Pimlico offers the Baltimore Spring Handicap, a dash of five and one-half furlongs with 0,000 in added money. Following the Spring Handicap on opening day, Pimlico presents the Riggs on the turf on Saturday, May 12; the Mr. Fitz on May 18; the Preakness on May 19; the Pimlico Nursery on May 26, the historic Dixie Handicap, also on the turf, on Memorial Day, May 30, and the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes on Saturday, June 2. Post time will be 2 p.m. daily, with the exception of Preakness Day when the racing will start at 1:45. The Preakness will be carried nationally on both radio and television by CBS with approximate post at 5:45 p.m.
