Oaks to Unbeaten Angela Rucellai RucellaiBy By DESMOND McGOWAN McGOWANOur Our Rome Correspondent CorrespondentROME ROME Italy The Razza Dormello Olgiatas threeyearold filly Angela Ru ¬ cellai conserved her unbeaten certificate when she won the 9 000 Italian Oaks over 10 furlongs at San Siro by two lengths from the Razza La Novellas Oga Mogoga who had finished runnerup to Braque last week The Razza di Rozzanos Zenobra making only her second appearance on a race track was third threequarters of a length back with the Miani Stables Rovera fourth in a field of eight The winners time of 222 was only fair and can be attributed to the slightly yielding surface and the fact that Angela Rucellai is extremely lazy and needs push ¬ ing all the way wayStarting Starting at 5 to 2 Angela Rucellai set ¬ tled dgwn in the middle of the field and until well into the stretch the leaders were Masaneta Sciare and Zenobra Camici challenged two furlongs but but the filly was slow to respond at first and only started to move when Oga Mogoga came up to her on the outside In the last furlong both went to the front and under terrific driving by Camici the daughter of Rockefella turned on the pace and was going away at the wire wireAlthough Although the Oaks was the main event over the week end the main topic of con ¬ versation was another eyebrowraising dis ¬ play by the Razza DormelloOlgiatas un ¬ beaten threeyearold colt Braque who won the Premio Gian Giacomo Trivulzio over 12 furlongs on the preceding day The going was on the yielding side and only the Fert Stables two colts Persio and For Ever opposed Braque Persio a wellbred son of Persian Gulf from the Ortello mare Spritely has useful form this year and his meeting with Braque was expected to be a good test since he had won over this dis ¬ tance recently recentlyThe The result was never in doubt and after holding a slight lead into the stretch Braque came away in the style of a champion to win by 10 lengths from Persio with For Ever nearly a half fur ¬ long behind The time of 233 was fast considering the going and backers once again had to be satisfied with their own money back At the time of writing nothing definite has been settled as to whether Braque comes to Rome for the Derby and the strongest rumor at the Capannelle today inferred that the Dor melloOIgiata have renewed faith that Grigoresco might be able to stay the easy 12 furlongs at the Capannellc We think this is idle chatter and in our opin ¬ ion the stable dare not risk a 30000 stakes to a horse who definitely does not stay the distance and who may have to race on an off track trackWe We fully expect Braque to run and to carry the first colors The uncertainty whether Braque will run has had its effect on other owners and we were unable to get much satisfaction to our inquiries and the final acceptance will not be known until these notes are in print Three probable runners in Aleppo Gries and Courmeyer were seen out today in the 11furlong Pre ¬ mio Conte Felice Scheibler but they were no match for Count Neni Da Zaras Hym node who was giving them all five pounds Not eligible for the Derby since he was bred in England Hymnode was a fivelengths winner over Aleppo with another ineligible in Flamenco H third Gries fourth and Courmeyer a bad fifth Aleppo was the backmarker for the greater part of the journey and despite a strong run in the last furlong he had not the speed to reach the winner but the race might have brought him on a lot and he takes his place in the Derby field with his stablemate Chi tet No matter who runs on the day we cannot see the probable winner coming from any other than Braque Chitet or Gioviano and expect them to finish in that order orderThe The Razza Ticinos threeyearold colt Seaulieu who raced but once at two years when he beat Antony by four lengths opened up his second season campaign at San Siro in the 7 furlong Premio Cremona Obviously far from fit and carrying a lot of fat he was beaten a short head by the Mantova Stables good colt Checo with the fouryearolds Swank SwankContinued Continued on Pag FortyOM Report From Italy Italyby by DESMOND McGOWAN I Continued in the early summer summerCount Count Neni Da Zaras good fouryear old colt Talismano gave the threeyearbid form a smack in the eye during the week when he led all the way to win the eight and onehalf furlongs Premio Natale di Roma by 10 lengths from the threeyear old Bould Miche who had recently con ¬ quered Zimone in the Premio Melton The Levante Stables three yearold grey colt Murier failed to stay a yard over 5 furlongs and was distanced to finish third For the second year running Aw Paolo Mez zanottes fiveyearold Gershwin won the valuable 5000 handicap the Premio Dell Arno at Florence
