Jet Pilot Escaped Tragedy TragedyCHURCHILL CHURCHILL DOWNS Louisville Ky May 3 Fate often plays an important role in the Derby and so it was in the case of Jet Pilot Two days before the running of the 1946 renewal fire swept the Maine Chance barn at Arlington Park Most of the horses were destroyed with the notable exception of Jet Pilot and War Fan who had been sent to Louisville with Lord Bos wellr Perfect Bahrain and Knockdown Jet Pilot started on Derby Day in a twoyear old race and was an easy winner He came back a year later to win the race and now is one of the most highly regarded studs in Kentucky standing at Spendthrift
