RALPH LOWE Owner of Gallant Man Lowe Makes First Derby Bid With Imported Gallant Man Texan Returned to Racing Few Years Back Purchased Migoli Colt From Aga Khan KhanRalph Ralph Lowe of Kent Tex has his first Kentucky Derby representative in the im ¬ ported pallant Man a game colt by Migoli and bred by the AgaAly Khan A rancher cattleman and oil man Lowe has had a long experience with racing owning a small but hard hitting stable before the war at which time he disbanded his stable and later returned to racing for a spell only as a spectator spectatorBut But a few years ago he reentered the ranks of owners on a much stronger basis than before and Gallant Man came as one of a half dozen yearlings selected from all of the age group of that year owned by the famed European turf stable Lowe had his choice Raced in Florida During Winter WinterFor For the most part the Lowe silks nave raced on California tracks but he sent the mairrdivision of his stable to the East late last slimmer and campaigned during the winter in Florida In additiooTto his major racing stable he has during several sum ¬ mers raced a small stable at one of the more popular small tracks of the South ¬ west Rukioso Downs in New Mexico Many wealthy and even not so wealthy West Texaos enjoy the racing at Ruidoso and like to have their colors represented during the season seasonLowe Lowe is a quiet and unassuming man and only recently 4isposed of his cattle stock Inclined to uriderstatementfhe says he is trying to get good stock to race and nothing would please him more than a Kentucky Derby winner spe is concentrating his small but quality bloodstock production interests in Ken ¬ tucky planning to abandon efforts to raise thoroughbreds at his Texas farm because of prolonged drought conditions But he jn sists that thoroughbreds as well as other types of horses grow up rugged in Texas and that the state is good for the horse as well as for people His oil holdings in the Midland area are extensive
