JOHN McSHAIN The Philadelphia Philadelphiaowners owners colors were carried to victory by byCourt Court Appeal at Mallow near Cork Corkrecently recently Reports Front Foreign Racing Centers Ireland Discuss Advertising Of Hollywood Park ParkBy By MICHAEL OlIEHIR OlIEHIROur Our Dublin Correspondent CorrespondentDUBLIN DUBLIN Ireland Irish racing folk haye had the opportunity of discussing American racing affairs in the last few days following an ad ¬ vertisement in one of our papers here for Ho 1 1 y w o o d Parks pending meeting It seems that the big American track is keen to get Irish entries for its meeting and in an effort to do so has ad ¬ vertised in the press setting out the various attractions of racing at this course Let me say at this stage that there is nobody but nobody more keen on seeing Irish horses go to race in America than yours truly j but frankly Hollywood Park has as much chance of getting entries as I have of fly ¬ ing the Atlantic without n aeroplane aeroplaneWe We have mentioned here before the need of knowledge of racing on both sides of the Atlantic when organizing such ventures and as we see it theplac ing of an advertisment in a papier in the end of April for a meeting starting in America in May and running to July is akin to a waste of money and energy Irish and British owners have their plans laid for the summer racing and it would take a good deal to change these plans and also to persuade Irish owners or trainers to make a sudden switch of their horses to send them to race in America at such short notice This global racing is a big thing and as such has to be given consideration far in advance advanceAs As one who has experience of racing on both sides of the Atlantic and knows more or less as much as anybody can how the horsemen in these parts think we feel that any American course wishing to attract Irish runners would have to go into the matter a long time in advance Another big point too is the time of year European flat racing is closing down from October to No ¬ vember when it shuts out altogether until the early spring It is during these months that American tracks Tiave their best op ¬ portunities of enticing horses from these parts Laurel had the right idea when staging the International in November and by scouting for months in advance prepar ¬ ing the way for the staging of the big race raceWe We feel that Santa Anita has the best chance of Calif ornian tracks to get run ¬ ners from these parts due mainly to the time of year in which then fixtures are run We recall that last year without any official prompting or knowledge we personally had all but interested one prominent Irish owner to send some of his horses to that meeting and with the right encouragement he may be tempted to have a go next fall We repeat that international racing on a transatlantic scale is something to be encouraged but it should develop in the coming years but with the proper and timely approach approachThere There has been an American success here recently when at Mallow near Cork John McShains colors were carried to a good win by Court Appeal in a maiden event This threeyearold is by Petition Da Ve and seems a good type of gelding He had run previously this year at the Curragh but was not up at the end of a hot race in his f irstever outing but at Mallow he was made favorite and smoothly accounted for a big field To advertise the form Hot Number owned by Hollywood film director John Huston ran unplaced but a few days later was a good third in a similar type event at Limerick Junction Court Appeal should win more races though he is not of course a horse of classic potential he also is a gelding Nevertheless he is a useful and still improving inmate of Vincent OBriens stable stableTwo Two of our best twoyearolds were narrowly beaten in England recently Precious Hoard from the S McGrath stable and Golden Game from Paddy Prendergasts yard Precious Hoard a strongly made colt by Midas now in America of course and out of Precious Rose the dam of the brilliant Bally precious had won in a canter at the Curragh before going to Sandown last Saturday and being caught in the last stride by Patroness Irishbred by Prince Chevalier Verdura the dam of Grati ¬ tude Golden Game went to Birming ¬ ham over the Easter holiday and failed by inches to catch Prime Boy Both BothContinued Continued on Poge Forty Report From Ireland IrelandBy By MICHAEL OHEIIIR Continued from Page Eight Eightthese these Irish horses should compensate their connections in quick time timeIrish Irish Airs As we write we are thinking of our chances in the weeks British clas ¬ sics notably with Angelet in the 1000 Guineas for which she is favorite Saw her in a smart bit of work on Saturday lastxafter racing at Naas and she is very verysffort sffort and andalso also those of Chevastrid and Brendan in the 20 0 Guineas next wtfek also our chasing festival of Punchestown is on this week More about this next week too Suggestions of American owners leas ¬ ing Irish horses for racing in America have been made here recently They kre not new We recall Abe Rodder of Fresno California coming here several yeais ago with just that in mind but he met with no great success Bought some of our horses instead
