Jamaica Features Rosedale Today NineTwo-Year-Old Fillies Seek Honors Hannibals Girl, Unleased, Poly Hi Appear Big Three In 48th Running of Stakes JAMAICA. L.- I.. N. Y.. May 7. — The Rosedale Stakes for two-year-old fillies will have its 48th running here Wednesday, with a field of nine slated to vie for a gross purse of 7,750. assuming that all start, and a gross prize to the winner of 2,500. Six of the nine named carry 119 pounds, with three maidens getting in with 114 in this five-furlong event which last year went to Reginald N. Websters Prophets Bell. Favoritism is expected to go to J. S. Kroeses Hannibals Girl, with almost equal ; support being accorded Mrs. S. G. Zau- i derers Poly Hi and Brookmeade Stables j Unleashed. Elmendorfs Oil Rich will un- doubtedly also have a share of admirers. Hannibals Girl impressed horsemen con-j siderably with her winning debut here on j April 24 when the daughter of Hannibal | stepped five furlongs in 1:0033 on a "good" j track, which is about as bad a track as you can have on Long Island, to score easily ; over nine other maiden fillies. Eddie Arcaro j replaces Bill Boland on Hannibals Girl, j while Boland will be astride Unleashed. Won Last Jamaica Start The Brookmeade filly, with Boland in the | irons, also won her last start here on April 23. setting five furlongs in the sparkling j :59, but on a sloppy track, which means an unusually fast strip here. In her previous outing at Gulfstream. Unleashed was the victim of a Graft accident in a dash won j by Casting over Poly Hi, hooking hind legs with a rival filly, causing her rider to lose both irons while she lost all chance, though managing to finish eighth in a field of 16. j Before that, she had won a maiden race at Gulfstream and finished second in a similar | dash at Hialeah. Poly Hi, who will be ridden by Eric i Guerin, finished second to Casting in the I eventful Singing Tower Stakes in which Unleashed had her troubles, and was shuffled back at the start, but finished j with a rush. Poly Hi had beaten Casting in J her previous outing, but was unplaced in the Hialeah Junveile Stakes agter winning her first two starts at that track. The daughter of Polynesian stepped a quarter in :2325 this morning, easing up three panels in :372.-, on the deep training 1 track at Belmont Park. Oil Rich, who will have the services of j Angel Valenzuela. won her last start here in 1:002.-, on an officially fast track on April 15, after finishing last in her debut here on April 2. C. T. Chenerys Sabana. who will be ridden by Hedley Woodhouse, was a remote third behind Oil Rich after finishing an almost equally distant third to Roman Song 1 and Pocahontas for her debut on April 2. j This race on a sloppy track was almost a second faster than Oil Richs dull debut the same afternoon. The Rosedale field is completed by P. H. B. Frelinghuysens Burst O Song, Hill N Dale Farms Scintillation, Roscoe T. ONeils Pekame. and Maine Chance Farms Fleet Nymph. The latter is making, her | racing debut. Scintillation is a Coaltown filly who won her first start here on April 3, then finished , second, beaten a length and a half by Un-! leashed, in the role of favorite. She seemed j to lack a finishing punch, but is eligible to ■ improve. Jimmy Combest will be in the irons.
