# Mares Beau Tops Dozen in Hadassah Eight Are Colonial Hopefuls; Tempted Makes Seasonal Bow In Sprint at Garden State By BOB McCURLEY Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 4. — Fred P. Meghs Mares Beau, a hard-hitting five-year-old Your Host mare, tops a field of better class fillies and mares in tomorrows Hadassah Purse. The Hadassah is at 6 furlongs and has attracted a full field of 12 and one also eligible. Included in the group are eight eligibles for the Colonial Handicap, a distaff dash of 6 furlongs slated to be run Saturday, May 16. In addition to Mares Beau they are Bernadotte Stables Kapitor, Anthony P. Bovellos Battle Hill, Carolyn K. Stables Dance Card, who is the lone also eligible tomorrow; Dorchester Farm Stables Stay Smoochie, Marben Farms Beige, Edward L. Stephensons Decameron and A. T. Taylors Miss Orestes. Annexed Capitol Handicap Mares Beau turned in a sparkling effort to capture Laurels opening day Capitol Handicap, in which she defeated colts and horses, and came back to run second, by a diminishing half - length, to the fine sprinting filly, Tinkalero in Jamaicas Correction Handicap. Tinkalero, who races for the Triple M. Farm of John J. Monaco, i$ also among the eligibles for the Colonial. In addition to the Correction she has victories in Bowies Barbara Frietchie and Burch Handicap to her credit this season. She will be ridden by apprentice Howard Cruz and with the five pound bug allowance gets in the Hadassah with 116 pounds. Battle Hill and Dance Card stack up as , the most formidable opposition for Mares Beau. The former was fourth behind Henry H. Polks Mile. Dianne in Jamaicas Farmerette Handicap in her last start. In her previous efforts at Laurel she had proved victorious, turning back Dance Card in the moi-e recent of the two. Under the conditions of tomorrows affair she will carry 118 pounds and have Lovato in the I saddle. Dance Card, who will also carry 118 pounds if she gets in, turned back Battle Hill in two previous meetings during the Bowie meeting. The four-year-old Occupy filly, who is slated to be ridden by Howard Grant, failed to win any stakes last season, but was the heroine of Delaware Parks Polly Drummond Stakes as a two-year-old. Stay Smoochie, who is to carry 115 pounds in the Hadassah, earned 9,172 in stakes events last season including victories in the Jasmine and Kentucky Oaks Prep. The Moorning Stables Tempted, who was not nominated for the Colonial, will make her seasonal debut in this spot. She captured the Alabama, Maskette and Jersey Belle Stakes during a highly successful campaign last year. Others named for the Hadassah include S. A. Calders Edna Allen, Dhu Varren Farms Cousin Con, Robert F. Friedrich Jr.s Negri Lea and Audley Farms Jodi.
