Walt Scores With Pair On Maumee Downs Card Guides Home Merry Sweeper, Get Busy in Consecutive Races By T. J. MULLIGAN Staff Correspondent MAUMEE DOWNS. Maumee, Ohio. May 4. — Clear weather and a fast track prevailed here for the first time in over a week and an early estimated Monday crowd of 2,700 was on hand to witness the sport. Jockey Bernard Walt, the Canadian sad-dlesmith, celebrated a double victory here this afternoon when he guided Merry Sweeper to the winners circle in the second race, then came right back in the third to score with Get Busy. Get Busy, racing in the red and white silks of F. C. Phillips, circled the field at the final bend in the third race to get up in time under the hustling tactics of Walt. Mon Filly, who performs in the partnership of Kranz and Scott, was second, one length behind the winner and a half length the best of B. M. Hawkins Boton, who nosed out L. R. Barkers Storiful for the show money. The son of Occupy made good after three unsuccessful tries, returned 6.40 and was timed in 1:08 for the 5% furlongs over the fast racing strip. Swift Summer, who was installed as the public choice, turned in a dull effort, finishing seventh in the nine-horse field. Merry Sweeper, owned and conditioned by F. E. Haynes, registered a two and one-half lengths victory in the second race, with D. Krauses First Swing taking down secondary honors, three lengths in advance of K. E. Schnelles Dare Menow. The winner, as second choice in the wagering, paid .40 and was ridden by Walt. G. F. Trine s Bells Port and jockey An thony Rebeck were a winning combination in the curtain-raiser. The winner crossed the finish line five lengths to a good of But First from the Green River stable. R. Schwigens Kid Provo wound up third.
