The latter set the pace to the midsttetch but could not withstand the winner. MASSAI worked his way into contention racing into the stretch and hung. PERDULARIO rallied belatedly from far back. CHIEF CAT rallied mildly on the final turn and faltered. The latter assumed the runner-up spot at once, dropped back slightly en the turn and was wearing down the winner AMONY lost ground steadily while maintaining his position in the running. The latter responded to urging in the drive but could not get up in time. WHITE LABEL vas steered to the outside for the drive and closed with a rush. NIGHT SPY prompted the pace to the midstretch and faltered. McDERMOTT rallied belatedly on the outside COUNT CRISP was through early NEWBOLD was never prominent. P. raced SEA VOYAGE into early defeat, dueled with D0SHAY to the top of the stretch, where the latters rider lost his whip, and gradually drew off. ROYAL FLOAT was well placed and lacked a response. DOSHAY pressed the pace much of the way and gave way gradually when unable to be propertly persevered with in the drive. THESPIS had no apparent excuse SEA VOYAGE was through early. PERATRICE. outrun earl;-, moved with a rush along the outside in the stretch to be up in time. LA COMPARSITA saved ground while rallying in the late stages but could not stay with the winner. SECRET VALLEY, forwardly placed throughout, lugged in through the stretch, bothering JOLLY HARP A claim of foul lodged by the rider of JOLLY HARP against the rider of SECRET VALLEY was upheld by the stewards. SECRET VALLEY was disqualified from third and placed four. JOLLY HARP opened a long early lead, continued on well when headed on the turn and pinched back between LA COMPARSITA and SECRET VALLEY when the latter lugged in during the drive. REGAL STEP was never in contention. MARAUDER, rank in the post parade, broke in a tangle, rushed between horses to reach a striking position early, moved to the front easily when ready, then propped and swerved into the inner rail when his rider switched his whip approaching the sixteenth pole.
