NEWTOWN TO EUCLID Wins Stake Feature at Jamaica for Rancocas Stable Saxon Scores Second Consecutive ConsecutiveVictory Victory Better Times in inEasily Easily Achieved Success JAMAICA X T May 12 Eucliil from the Hacocas Stable was returned the winner of the feature race at Jamaica today the Kewtown Claiming Stakes after a hard drive J F Uichardsons Basquaise raced into sec ¬ ond place while W J Salmons Traveller was third The winner was ridden by jockey Jj Fator and was a prominent factor from the start startIiltle Iiltle time was lost at the post and the field left in good alignment Euclid and Gnome Girl were heads apart while Bas ¬ quaise and Everglade met with interference which forced them to drop back The lead ¬ ing pair raced as a team until the stretch turn was reached with the advantage rest ¬ ing with one or the other at every stride Swinging for home Gnome Girl felt the ef ¬ fects of the early pace and dropped back In the meantime Basquaise had steadily im ¬ proved her position and came fast but at the end did not menace the winner Trav ¬ eller which was outrun in the early stages of the race worked his way up on the out ¬ side through the stretch and finished fast to be third The race carried an added value of 2000 and was worth 3200 to the llancocas Stable StableItETUlJX ItETUlJX OF AVAIOI VEATIIEU VEATIIEUA A return of warm weather brought out a large chowd while the track was again at its best bestThe The Greentree Stables Saxon accounted for his second consecutive victory when he stood a long drive gamely to account for the Woodside which engaged a band of two yearolds at fiveeighths Harry Payne Whitneys Miniator was the one to race to second place while A J Gadeks Master William was third The winner was ridden l y George Ellis and dominated the running from the start He displayed a high flight of early speed saving ground throughout stood off determined opposition from Mini ¬ ator The latter raced in closest pursuit of the pace throughout and finished going gamely Master William which finished third after a slow beginning worked his way up on the outside He was forced to come around the leaders entering the stretch losing much ground but when straightened out in the stretch could not cut down the advan ¬ tage of the leaders leadersA A poor band of maidens threeyearolds and upwards faced the starter in the second race which was at a mile and seventy yards The winner turned up in Velero from the Lilane Stable ridden by jockey Ambrose He showed the way throughout and at the end won with speed in reserve Cape Horn from the Newtondale Stable raced to the place while James Butlers Bombardier was third From a good start Ambrose rushed Velero into the lead while Bombardier raced after him with Paddy Hynes in third place and Swept a distant trailer Velero con ¬ tinued to show the way under steady re ¬ straint and leaving the halfmile post drew away slightly Paddy Hynes moved up with determination and was soon on even terms with the Butler representative Swinging for home Velero drew away readily while Cape Horn after improving his position on the inside came along to outgame the tiring Uombardier 1IAUDWOOI RATUATES RATUATESG G D Wideners Hardwood ridden by jockey E Barnes accounted for the third race which was for maidens at threequar ¬ ters in a drive from Crystallite from the llancocas Stable with the Greentree Stables Alley Oop third Three of the eight named were scratched with Palestine the choice of the public From a rapid beginning Pales ¬ tine and Hardwood raced into the lead and set a fast pace while Crystallite dropped back shortly after the start and was last of the field Gladstone being left at the post Turning for home Palestine began to tire and 1 Fator was forced to go to the outside Hardwood was tiring rapidly from his early effort and bore out badly In the final sixteenth but kept going long enough to be the victor by a head Crystal ¬ lite was racing best of all and had a safe margin over Alley Oop which was an easy third Palestine quit badly in the final eighth and was not presevered with withG G Koenigswalds Better Times proved an easy winner of the fifth race which attracted well matched band at a mile and seventy yards He dominated the race throughout and at no stage left the result in doubt Will Wells raced into second place while Gov Smith was third The winner began fast and sprinted into an easy lead rounding the first turn clear of interference Hanky Ittce began in a tangle but soon rushed into contention while Gala Night was crowded jnlo the fence shortly after the start and knocked back to last placo
