JT f T v-; r , Richards Is Next Big Delaware Race 2,500 Added Sophomore Stake to Be Run Saturday; Make-up of Field Uncertain By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 5. The 2,500 Added Leonard Richards Stakes features next weeks sport at Delaware Park and concludes a six-day span which also includes the running of the 0,000 added Polly Drummond Stakes on Wednesday af ternoon. The Leonard Richards is at a mile and a furlong for three-year-olds, while the mid-weekoffering is at the five-furlong distance and is limited to two-year-old fillies. The Leonard Richards, which had an early closing on May 1, 1953, attracted a total of 325 nominations, 89 of which were kept eligible through the final payment of 0 on April 15, 1954. Just how many horses will be in the starting line-up is difficult to determine, for not only does the race conflict withx the Belmont Stakes, thus practically eliminating such colts as Hasty House Farms Hasty Road and Llangollen Farms Porterhouse, but 10 of the prospects were entered to compete in todays Kent. Among the prominent Kent aspirants who are ineligible for the Leonard Richards are Brookfield Farms I Geegee and Mrs. Ada L. Rices Ring King. Leading Candidates Leading prospects for the Leonard Richards at this writing are Mrs. J. R. H. Thourons War of Roses, Woodley Lane Farms Red Hannigan and King Ranchs High Gun, who outran Correlation and others while earning, the first three positions as named in the recent Jersey Stakes. Other probabilities include Hal Price Headleys Revolt, Walter M. Jeffords Renoir, Mrs. Jeffords Biloxi, Wheatley Stables Full Flight and C. V. Whitneys Catspaw. The Polly Drummond is the race in which Maine Chance Farms fleet Beaugay raced to a new track record of :58 in winning the 1945 renewal of the five-furlong affair. That mark seems fairly safe at this time, but a fine field of lassies seems certain to take a shot at it on Wednesday. Among those pointing for the race are Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords En Rapport, Louis Lee Haggin, n. Smart Devil and C. V. Whitneys Whitewash, who finished as named in a local race this past Friday. En Rapports time for that dash was a creditable :59, flat. Other intended starters are Walter J. Appels Cool Stream, Barclay Stables Reddy Ro, James Bayards Alapocas, Belair Studs Natasha, Clairborne Farms Courtesy, Fox-catcher Farms Fanford, W. E. Leachs Menolene, H. H. Polks Lindas Dream and Reginald N. Websters Sorceress. Mondays program features the six-furlong Assault Purse, in which Walter M. Jeffords Tahiti will endeavor to regain the form he displayed over this track as a two-year-old. He meets Jeannie C, Ros Clag, Repetoire, Roman Rocket, Next Best and the King Ranch team of Prompt and Bey-lerbey.
