CEDAR BROOK was sent to the front from the oustide leaving the backstretch, relinquished the lead briefly to CAROLINA JOY entering the stretch, regained the lead in midstretch and was in hand through the final furlong. CAROLINA JOY was sent through along the inside on the turn to secure a slight lead, then had nothing left when challenged, although clearly best of the others. ROYAL ANTHEM was well placed and weakened. LAKE ERIE rallied belatedly along the outside. REVOLUTIONIST passed tired horses in the drive. BEECHMONT failed to attain prominence. TALENT SHOW, well placed while under mild restraint early, was taken to the outside for the drive and wore down DEACK DUNCAN while attempting to lug in. DEACK DUNCAN set the pace under rating and fought it out gamely in the drive. DAY COURT prompted the pace to midstretch and had to be steadied while in close quarters through the final furlong. MYSTIC II. raced in contention while saving ground on the final turn, then could not get up while crowded slightly by DAY COURT. A claim of foul lodged by the rider of MYSTIC II. against the rider of DAY COURT for alleged interference in the stretch was disallowed. OLIGARCHY lacked a response. BATTLE NECK was never a factor.
