Burch the Trainers and Hanf ord the Jockeys. ♦ The Havre de Grace spring meeting, beginning April 16 and ended April 30, was of thirteen days duration, with ninety-one races run and a total of 65,950 distributed in stakes and purses. The daily average distribution amounted to 2,765. Four stake features were decided and the winners were Equipoise, Harford Handicap; Lightning Bolt, Philadelphia Handicap; Cattail, Aberdeen Stakes, and Evening, Chesapeake Stakes. W. Ziegler, Jr., with 5,625, and G. D. Widener, with 5,275, were the largest winners among the owners, while Mrs. J. H. Whitney and C. V. Whitney also figured prominently. Cattail, winner of the Aberdeen Stakes, was the leader of the winning horses at the meeting, with 4,150 to his credit. Evening won 1,850 and Equipoise 0,250. P. M. Burch was the most successful of the trainers, with the fine record of ten winners, six more than to the credit of any other trainer. B. Hanford and J. Gilbert had a close and interesting fight for the saddle honors, the former winning, with fourteen winners, and the latter with twelve.
