UNIVERSE MEETS MISHAP LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 4.— T. M. Cassidys Universe, winner of the Wood Memorial Stakes at Jamaica last Saturday, wrenched the coffin joint of his left foreleg either during or after his impressive trial over the Derby route this morning, and the injury, while not serious, may prevent him from filling his Kentucky Derby engagement. Dr. N. E. Southard, who was called I in to attend the son of Infinite, stated that he had advised Joe Bauer to await tomorrow before definitely deciding the question of whether he would start Saturday. "The injury improved greatly," said Dr. I Southard, "when tubbed, and I would not say that it will force him out of the race. There is danger, however, that a hard effort would have dire results." Following his workout, Universe manifested only mild traces of soreness, and the report of his unfortunate injury occasioned much surprise among horsemen who witnessed his final distance gallop.
