RIVALS IN HANDICAP TRIALS Ladysman and Indian Runner Renew Feud in Arlington Handicap Next Saturday Afternoon. ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., July 16.— William R. Coes Ladysman and D. A. Woods Indian Runner, which will renew their Stars and Stripes feud in Saturdays renewal of the Arlington Handicap, were given preparatory trials for the 0,000 added ] mile and a quarter special over the week end with both performing to the satisfaction of their trainers. Ladysman, was asked by trainer Hugh Fontaine to go the full route, which he did comfortably in 2:07. The conqueror of Equipoise in the Suburban Handicap, was in hand all the way as he went the quarter in :24, half in :48%, three-quarters in 1:14%, mile in 1:40% and nine furlongs in 1:53%.! The rangy four-year-old came out of the trial showing some lameness, but it quickly disappeared and trainer Fontaine believes it was caused by a bandage being too tight and causing a muscle to become corded. Ladysman will be given another trial Wednesday. The Stars and Stripes and Arlington Inaugural Handicap winner of the last two years, was asked to go an easy mile by trainer G. W. Ogle, tho veteran gelding doing the task without effort. He was timed in 1:41%, after going the half in :48% and three-quarters in 1:14%. He too will have an extensive trial later in the week. Other Arlington Handicap candidates asked for speed were Big Beau, mile in 1:44, Evergold, half mile in :50%, Blessed Event, I seven-eighths in 1:27%. Inlander and Time Clock together, one mile in 1:44%. The latter comprise two of the Brookmeade Stables probable starters.
