"NARRA6ANSETT SPECIAL" I HAS UNIQUE CONDITIONS .--..- PROVIDENCE, R. I., April 18 The "Nar-ragansett Special," Rhode Islands biggest horse race of the year, is very likely to credit the winners fortunate owner with the neat sum of 0,000 or more. Conditions of the race, scheduled for Wednesday, August 21, have just been written and released to horsemen by racing secretary Pat Horgan. They read as follows: Narragansett Special, 5,000 or 0,000 added. Entries close Monday, May 27. To be run Wednesday, August 21, 1935. For three-year-olds and over, by subscription of 00 each, which shall accompany the nomination; supplementary nominations may be made up to and including July 15 at a fee of 50 each, which shall accompany the nomination; 00 additional to start, with 5,000 added, of which ,000 to second, ,500 to third and 50 to fourth. A further 5,000 will be added by the Narragansett Racing Association, Inc., if among the starters are two or more horses which, are winners in 1935 of either the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont Stakes, American Derby or the Arlington Classic. Weights, Saturday, August 17. Starters to be named through the entry box the day before the race at the usual time of closing. One mile and three-sixteenths. A notable change made in conditions for the "Special" is that this year it will be run as a straight handicap, with weights allotted strictly on the basis of a horses past performances and ability, rather than weight-for-age, as were the conditions last year. This type of race will be much more popular With the public and horsemen, because it offers a wider field of horses to choose from and cannot fail to provide a close and highly interesting contest. Easily the " outstanding clause is that which provides an additional 5,000 to the winner in the event of the starters including two or more winners of the summers five features. That this purse, the largest on the seasons calendar for eastern racing, will attract the feature winners is an assured thing? and; given fine weather on August 21, Narragansett Park will surely establish another new set of records.
