1 ARLINGTON DOWNS NOTES 1 o - -4 Many of the jockeys now riding at Arlington Downs will remain in Texas for the Dallas and San Antonio meetings, it was announced Thursday by Wesley Freeman, superintendent of the jockeys room. A-large number of the group staying in the state will be in colors at San Antonio. Among those are: J. Johnson, J. J. Smith, H Tinker, S. Hebert, F. A. Smith, D. R. Stuller, H. Callahan, R. Mozer, L. Turner, L. Jordan, J. Leyland, W. Lowe and others. Those going to Dallas are: C. E. Allen, A. Fermin, P. Martinez, Frank Ritz, E. Deperini, C. Parvin, F. Eppihimer, H. Dabson, F. Grill, K. Hebert, A. Richard, J. King, N. Merritt, J. Deering and others. Many of the other jockeys at the Downs will drift eastward. George Woolf will go to New York, while Lester Balaski and Charles Landolt plan to ride at Churchill Downs. Jackie Westrope will go to Chicago. Paul Keester also plans to ride at Aurora and other Chicago tracks. It will be several weeks before Frankie Ritz will be able to return to the saddle, having sustained several torn ligaments in his right arm when he was in a spill the past week. Joe Wolkin reports a continued demand for reservations for Derby Day, and already has made arrangements to augment his table space in the dining rooms, mezzanine terrace and promenade walk. Wolkin states that many late requests are coming in from the southern part of the state, Houston, in particular, being represented by forty reservations, some of the parties being for as many as twenty guests. East and West Texas, too, is well represented, and there are several groups of California, Colorado, Canada and New York state visitors in the advance reservations already on hand. Saturdays pretentious program for the 5,000 Texas Derby continues to be augmented, and it will be a full afternoon for all connected with the Texas Jockey Clubs arrangements for the concluding day. Festivities will start soon after noon, and each hour thereafter until the last race will be spiced with things worth while. Resident manager Trav Daniel has completed all his arrangements for augmented crews in every division of The Jockey Clubs vast family, and he is set now to care for 20,000 or more patrons Derby JJay. Added parking space will be available, and the arrangements are perfected now so that no hitch can possibly mar the program. Extra programs have been ordered, and all attaches are ready for the big rush, which is expected to set a hew attendance record for racing in the South. Joe Barr, assistant in the mutuel department, will leave Sunday for San Antonio, where he will be in charge of the certificate department at Alamo Downs. G. L. Hamilton is shipping to Pinilico at the close of this meeting. Furfiber is eligible for the Preakness Stakes.
