Mikel, one of the leading trainers in this country for the past several years, made application for sixteen stalls for the coming twenty-one days meeting to be held at Fair Park beginning April 25. Mikel, now racing at Arlington Downs, plans on moving his stable here the latter part of the week. Mikel stated Wednesday morning he was going to ship part of his stable to Aurora, 111., after this meeting, and the balance of the colorbearers would be sent here for the spring meeting. The horses to be raced at Fair Park were not named by Mikel, but will be selected from the twenty-five he has in training at Arlington Downs. In addition to his own, Mikel is training the horses of G. E. Ewins, C. Lemons, and his son W. A. Mikel. General manager Julius G. Reeder is trying to make room at Fair Park for C. E. Davison, who asked for fourteen stalls, while H. S. Hart, who trains for Leo J. Marks, headed by the good sprinter Marooned, wants to ship his stable of nine to the Dallas track. While Reeder is trying to satisfy as many applicants as possible, horses continued to arrive here. The horses of Winfree Brothers, including Winning Woman, Fire Star, and the two-year-olds Desirable and Rosy Doon, were vanned over Wednesday morning from Arlington Downs. Nominations for the Fair Park of Texas Handicap, the featured race on opening day, continue to come in, and the latest owners to enter horses were Mrs. A. R. Smith, who nominated Lord Tournament, and Irenes Bob, which races for Mrs. E. B. Shipp. Nominations for the race close Saturday, and entries for the ,500 added purse must be received or mailed before midnight Saturday. According to Reeder, the largest as well as he classiest field of horses to race at Fair Park will be seen in the opening day feature, which will be over the George course.
