j FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF j j ENDURANCE RACE SERIES j PAWTUCKET, R. I., March 31. The "Endurance Series," which made such a hit with the patrons of Narragansett Park last fall, will be further developed throughout 1936, according to a statement released this morning by president Walter E. OHara. The first condition book for the spring meeting, which opens on Saturday, May 2, and continues through until May 23, reveals that racing secretary Pat Horgan is offering opportunities for platers to develop the stamina and courage to go over a distance of ground. Races are written for horses valued at ,000, ,250, S1.600 and ,000, at distances ranging from one mile and a sixteenth to one mile and three-sixteenths. The second condition book of the spring meeting will include a series of races for horses of this type extending out to one mile and a half. This will enable thoroughbreds to be prepared and conditioned for the Endurance Series proper, which commences at the long summer meeting and continues throughout the fall schedule. As in 1935, increased purses on a rising scale will be hung up for the Series races, which last year culminated in a mile and three-quarters race for a purse of ,500. A valuable prize that ,000 horses have never before been given a chance of winning. It is hoped this season that the four groups of horses above mentioned, will be brought up to contest over a journey of two miles in the final tests. That New England fans are absolutely sold on long distance races was evidenced by their great enthusiasm last season, thus their continuance and even further develop-I ment comes as a welcome announcement.
