DNIEPER CONSOLATION CHOICE Mrs. P. A. B. Wideners Kentucky Derby Candidate Highly Regarded for Tropical s Closing Feature. MIAMI, Fla., March 31. Dnieper, second to Brevity in the Florida Derby and a likely running mate of the latter in the Kentucky Derby, has been named a 9 to 5 favorite to carry Mrs. P. A. B. Wideners colors to victory in the second running of the ,000 Derby Consolation Stakes at Tropical Park on April 4 by Frank Erickson, well known New York commissioner, who is vacationing in Miami. Dnieper is one of the nine three-year-olds designated by racing secretary John B. Campbell as "probable starters" in the mile and a furlong stake that closes the Florida racing campaign. The chestnut son of Kiev also is one of the four in this list pointing for the Kentucky Derby, the others being C. V. Whitneys Bright Plumage, the Mae-mere Farms Maeriel, and R. W. Collins Old Comrade. William J. Hirschs Columbiana, fleet New York filly, is second choice in the Erickson line at 2 to 1, due to her brilliant races in this section recently. Next in line in the New York commissioners regard is Bright Plumage, at 7 to 2; Branncastle Stables The Hare, 20 to 1; Maemeres Maeriel, 6 to 1; Southland Stables Ceiling, 20 to 1; H. H. Browns Swamp Angel, 30 to 1; E. R. Bradleys Bootless and Baby Time, 30 to 1, and Collins Old Comrade, 100 to 1. Microbe will be coupled with Bright Plumage in the Whitney entry at 7 to 2. Rockwood and Maedic, the Maemere entry, are held favorites at 11 to 5 to win the ,500 Viscaya Stakes, for two-year-olds, by Erickson. Then come the other "probable starters," Mrs. Emil Denemarks Owaller, 4 to 1; Bomar Stables Little Shaver and Cosette, 2 1-2 to 1, Mrs. Clyde Phillips Moss Gal, 6 to 1, Odessa Farms Oddesa Girl, 10 to 1, J. P. Halls Little Empress, 12 to 1, J. W. Parrishs Proph, W. H. Gallaghers Chanting, Mulvihill Brothers Grey Shot and W. H. Fursts Clouds at 30 to 1, and C. V. Whitneys Bagpipe, 100 to 1.
