CONSISTENT SADIE F. WINS Donnacona Filly Nose Before Sky Pirate at Finish. Several Thrilling Contests Make Up for Lack I of Feature Race on Arlington Downs Program. j ARLINGTON, Texas, March 31. Sadie F. consistent daughter of Donnacona and Sun Glow II. was victorious in one of the several thrilling contests of a featureless program offered by the Texas Jockey Club at Arlington Downs this afternoon. The sprightly miss reached the end of the short six furlongs of the Waggoner course, a nose before N. G. Gibbons lightly regarded Sky Pirate, with third honors going to Southern Way from Mrs. A. M. Creechs stable. Reelon, which was backed into odds-on favoritism in the field of nine three-year-olds had only Double Kerry beaten at the end. Sadie F., which was completing a double for Jake Freedman, Houston sportsman and owner, was the second choice to Reelon and although she sprinted into a good lead during the run to the stretch, Sky Pirate very nearly defeated her. With a drop in temperature and cloudy weather prevailing, the attendance was not as large as that of Monday, but there was a good crowd present and the gathering was very successful. There was an immediate start to the sprint which served as the fifth race and the diminutive Charley Hanauer had the winner in front immediately. Sky Pirate was in closest pursuit with Blue Train showing the way to Naughty and Reelon. Leaving the back stretch, Naughty moved Continued on twenty-sixth page. CONSISTENT SADIE F. The pack maintained that order to the stretch, were Sky Pirate began to cut down the winners advantage and the pair went as a team during the final furlong. During the final furlGng Sadie F. responded gamely to Hanauers strong hand riding and she maintained her lead to the end. Lticky to find room while improving his position, Southern Way picked up the leaders steadily, and Parke was forced to send him to the outside in the last furlong but: he got up to beat Blue Train by a neck at the end. Naughty also gave way in the drive, while Fra DJavolo only made up ground in the last quarter to lead Sundad at the end. The winner, under the feather of 101 pounds, ran the distance in 1:09 Vs. First Time was third, five lengths in the wake of the leaders and a nose before Ruth Scout, which beat Albino by the same margin for fourth laurels. Although he caused his legion of backers that installed him a 7 to 20 choice in the wagering much worry during the opening half mile of the second race, Irish Ford, chief reliance of the Three Ds Stock Farm for Texas and Kentucky Derby honors, was an easy winner over Playmay, Hazel Eye. and eight other three-year-olds at the end of the Waggoner course distance. The gray unsexed son of Royal Ford and Irish Ways was the first under way, but he dropped back when Royalty, Delano Rose, and Playmay sprinted into a commanding lead during the opening five-sixteenths. Forced to lose ground when improving his position, the gray gelding drove past his opponents entering the stretch to wear Playmay down in the last furlong and reach the finish two lengths before her. The most thrilling finish of the meeting came with the third race, also at the Waggoner course distance, when Jake Frced-mans Geneva Cross, The Point and Alwin-tour reached the end noses apart and well before Prince Heather. Ten sprinting platers went away in perfect order, but Alwin-tour soou out tf the pack to sprint Into a long lead during the run to the stretch. Tiring badly in the final quarter, he was kept under hard urging when the i winner and The Point drove down on the I outside of him. During the late stages, Geneva Cross proved the gamest of the lot, and he got the winners verdict at the end. Mayor Holcombe, which forced the pace to the- stretch, quit badly to be a trailer at the end. Sad Knight had a rough trip. Al-wintour enjoyed favoritism. Leroy Pierson rode his sixty-sixth winner of the year and increased his advantage over the other American riders when he drove C. E. Simmons Linden Tree to victory over Snorky, Polyphote and five others that met at the Waggoner course distance for the fourth event. The first dead heat at Arlington Downs came in the sixth race, when A. G. Tarns Whipper Cracker and Mayfield Stables Pulis reached the finish so closely aligned that it was impossible for the placing judges to separate them. Kievson, which led the pace for more than a mile, was third, a Jength and a half in the wake of the leaders. Eugene. Jjrillon arrived from New Orleans with sixteen horses. Tri another car Lee Erb, C., H. Morris, J. Smith, A. A. Young and jC. E. Durneli had their charges. .B c cp. co eJO J3c cot tvf"
