WIDENER STRING FOR CICERO Trainer D. E. Stewart to Campaign Division of New Yorkers Stable at Hawthorne Course. Following: the announcement Monday of the entry of Grand Slam for the Chicago Derby, to be run at Hawthorne, June 20, came the interesting information from judge C. W. Hay, at Miami, to Albert Sabath, president of Hawthorne, to the effect that a division of Joseph Wideners stable, to be trained by D. E. Stewart, will be shipped to Hawthorne for the entire meeting. Mr. Stewart further advised judge Hay that his Derby candidate, Dnieper, would be included and would be pointed for the Derby. This is assurance to the turf fans of Illinois that most of the prominent stables in the country will race in this sector beginning with the Hawthorne meeting. Stall applications have already been received for 550 head of horses by Mr. Sabath, including the following: Calumet Farm, Shandon Farm, E. R. Bradley, Tranquillity Farm, J. W. Parrish, Dixiana, Emil Denemark, Val-dina Farm, Blue Ridge Farm Stable, Char-Lei Stable, E. Sigman, Brentwood Farm, Beaumar Stable, W. C. Rcichert, John J. Coughlin, John J. OByrne, Graceland Stock Farm, J. Lane Wilson, Paul Fred Farm, E. E. Watts, Eedford Stock Farm, W. G. Sparks, K. Ramsey, F. S. Page and R. T. Watts. Consideration is also being given to the camera-eye finish. The three devices that are now in in use at race tracks are being tested at Hawthorne to determine which will be more serviceable. Mr. Harry I. Day, of the Electrical Research Products Company, of New York, will be in Chicago Wednesday in an effort to convince the management that his device, which is also coupled with the electrical timing, is the best device on the market. A decision will be made within the next ten days. Mr. Sabath also received word from judge C. W. Hay, general manager of Hawthorne, that he had concluded his missionary trip to Tropical Park and that he had met with considerable success in his solicitations. Also that he would immediately return to Hawthorne, where the work of preparing the course for the opening on May 23 is now in progress.
