OFFICIALS FOR LONGACRES Russell Sanders Takes Everetts Place as Racing Secretary. George W. Schilling to Act as Steward for Washington State Racing Commission j Stake Dates. SAN BRUNO, Calif., March 31 Changes in the official family for the Longacres race meeting, near Seattle, July 3 to September 7, were announced today when it became known that Webb Everett, racing secretary, had resigned. Joseph Gottstein, president of the Washington Jockey Club, visited Tanforan today and immediately filled the racing secretary vacancy by appointing Russell Sanders to the position. The latter, rising young turf official, formerly served at Agua Caliente, as assistant secretary to judge George W. Schilling, as secretary at the Spokane fall meet and has filled official places on various other tracks for the past ten years. Gottstein arrived today from Seattle for a conference with the principal members of the Longacres new official family, which include the following: George W. Schilling, steward representing the Washington State Racing Commission; W. A. Quigley, steward representing Washington Jockey Club; a third steward to be named from honorary board of directors; Russell Sanders, racing secretary and placing judge; Edward Thomas, starter; R. E. "Lanny" Leighninger, public relations and placing judge; James C. McGill, paddock and placing judge. A board of handicappers, three in number, including Sanders, will be named to make weights for special events. Gottstein met numerous horsemen at Tanforan and received assurances that the bulk of those now racing will visit the Seattle track for the fifty-one day meeting. He laid down the purse arrangement as follows: Minimum purse, 00, with one 00, one 00 and one 00 daily. In addition there is an elaborate program of sixteen stakes, headed by the 0,000 added Longacres Mile, for which the best horses in training on the Coast will be named, the ,000 added Seattle Handicap and the ,000 added Washington Derby.
