TRANSMUTABLE VICTOR Old - Gold Stable Racer Wins at Oaklawn at Odds-On. Feature Triumph Jockey Harry Lou-mans Second of Day First Try-Graduates From Maidens. HOT SPRINGS, Ark., March 31 The Old Gold Stables Transmutable, making his first start of the current meeting-, was an easy winner of the fourth and principal event on this afternoons program at Oaklawn Park. Transmutable, which was carrying jockey Harry Louman to his second victory of the afternoon, took the lead at the outset and never had to be urged to win by a length and a half. Grand Rock was second to complete the Oaklawn course which the winner negotiated in 1:08, while Busy Spain was third. Miss Saxon and Brustigert completedthe field. Grand Rock, -vas closest to the winner throughout and though he did gain some ground on Transmutable in the stretch, he never really threatened. He finished three lengths before Busy Spain, while Miss Saxon finished six lengths farther back. Brustigert trailed the field throughout. Incidentally, the entire field finished as it began. E. Reas Alkali was never headed in the second race over the Oaklawn course. He took the track at the outset, opened a lead of five lengths before reaching the stretch and then coasted the rest of the way to score by three lengths. Parade Rest was closest to the winner throughout and though tiring near the end managed to save the place by a head over Jessie Dear, which beat Carnival a nose. The winner was ridden by J. Dias. FIRST TRY GRADUATES. Maidens paraded to the post for the third race which resulted in the graduation of Fred Allens First Try which under a clever xide by the veteran Harry Louman, raced to the end of the test over the Oaklawn course half a length before Poll Parrot, the favorite, while third went to Sayloma. Cooler weather greeted patrons this afternoon, the temperature being low enough to make top coats and wraps comfortable. Despite the sudden change in weather, however, the crowd was bigger than yesterday and almost as large as on other week days. The skies were overcast much of the day and around noon there was a threat of rain. Although the fourth Tace featured the card there was plenty of contention in the fcther six races, which also brought out well Balanced fields. Competing with the fourth for the place Rf honor on the card was the fifth, which Hengaged six three-year-olds over a mile and seventy yards. The last two races also were W decided over routes but they brought to-f gether platers from a lower bracket, i The first three races, like the feature, were contested over the short Oaklawn course and each of them saw large fields go to the post. One of the biggest upsets of the meeting came out of the first race when Rolanda, under a rather weird ride by Gordon Arnold, Continued on twenty-eighth page. TRANSMUTABLE VICTOR Continued from first page. failed to share in the purse. Away slowly, but closer up than usual, Rolanda was taken the overland route, with the result that the listless manner in which he was handled and the loss of ground sustained throughout the running ruined whatever chance he had of winning. Sequoia came to the end in front, one length to the good, while second went to Charming Sir, with Semester, an outsider, in third place when they closed the engagement. Drinkwater, of which much was expected, failed to race to expectations and was widely outrun throughout. Away in stride, Foil Parrot failed to keep pace with Sayloma, which took command but the leaders could never attain a decisive degree of advantage over Poll Parrot, while the ultimate winner was slightly outrun for three-eighths and it was not until they came to the final eighth that the winner loomed up as dangerous. Responding gamely to punishment, he gained the lead and was ready to, draw clear as they closed the engagement
