GENTRY SILKS SCORE VICTORY Far and Fast Carries Owner-Trainers Colors in Triumph at Long Branch Course. TORONTO, Ont., June 12. Lloyd Gentry, who has met with a great measure of success with the H. C. Hatch and Mrs. R. Fair-banks horses since the Canadian racing season was ushered in little more than two weeks ago, saw his white and black racing silks home to victory when Far and Fast, which raced with little success during the winter at Santa Anita Park, showed his best brand of speed to capture premier honors in the fifth race at Long Branch on Friday, which served as the best offering at the suburban course for the third day of the local meeting. Meeting six other seasoned sprinters of better than average class, including a pair from the J. E. Smallman stable, which ruled favorite in the wagering, the brown son of Hourless and Queen of Wenonah ran a smashing race to break into the win column for the first time this year when he ran three-quarters of a mile in 1:12, registering his victory by a length over Erindale Stables Spring Moon, with Clarksdale, the reliance of the Smallman pair, in third place. With ideal weather conditions prevailing, a large assemblage turned out for the third day of racing at the popular Lake Shore track and several exciting finishes kept enthusiasm high all during the matinee. The score of Far and Fast was the first for the silks of Gentry at this meeting and his triumph in a measure was attributed to the skillful handling of D. Brammer. Rating his mount in second place at the heels of Spring Moon, as the Erindale miss led the way down the far side of the track and into the stretch, he had him on the inside of Clarksdale to keep his mount from bearing out on the turn. Sent to the outside in the run through the stretch, Far and Fast readily engaged the Frisius filly and unleashing handy speed, came away to triumph by his own length.
