ROCKINGHAM PARK HANDICAP 0,000 Added Event Closing Day Feature at Popular New Hampshire Course. SALEM, N. H., June 12. Rockingham Park ends its first meeting under the aegis of James I. Bush and his associates tomorrow with the running of the 0,000 added mile and an eighth Rockingham Park Handicap, most important monetary event of the session. The first rainy day of the meeting came today and prospects are for an off track for the handicap. However, nine good handicap performers have accepted, headed by Elwood Sachsenmaiers Roman Soldier, unbeaten this season and a two-time stake winner at the meet, which will carry the top impost of 133, giving seventeen pounds to his nearest rival. Discoverys absence from the race naturally detracts from its interest, but the A. G. Vanderbilt stable will be trying with two other horses, Gallant Mac and Identify. The handicap champion of last season has never won a race at Rockingham and it is likely the stable did not wish to try him over this course for his first effort since the Santa Anita Handicap, especially under 136 pounds. It is likely the conquering Soldier will be no more than even money in tomorrows stake. He will not have the services of Johnny Longden, who has ridden him in both of his scores here, as that lad will be piloting Rushaway at Detroit. Roman , Soldier is a mean post actor, a heavy headed and hard to handle horse. Harry Richards, who will be in the saddle, is a strong boy and should be able to get the most out of his mount. The track odds maker has him 7 to 5 but the crowd is not likely to make him that price. Either Brookmeades Good Goods, recently shipped here, or the two-horse entry from the Vanderbilt barn will rule second choice to the Soldier. These horses appear to be about 8 to 1 choices in the field named overnight.
